Current Events

Because of the recent violence nearby, last week there was a gas crisis in the city for a few days.  There was no gas to be sold in the entire city.  Taxis were hard to find.  Lines up to a mile long formed at all of the gas stations.  At one station, there was even a crowd of people and protestors.  People just turned off their cars, locked them, and left them in the line for gas overnight.  Luckily there was at least partial relief.  Now, if you wait in line for several hours you can get half a tank of gas.  I’m thankful that the crisis didn’t get any worse than it did.  The effects had the potential to trickle down to many areas of life, like whether the school remained open, whether groceries were available, or whether we are able to evacuate if the violence comes in our direction.  Please continue to ask the Father for an end to the violence and for relief from the gas crisis.

 

Cultural Insight

This week I had a very interesting conversation with a Kelly, a patriotic national.  I was at her house watching a movie late one night with her daughter when she got home.  She sat down, and before long we were in the middle of a sp conversation that lasted until 2 am.  PTL!  She is Zoroastrian, which is the traditional religion of her people, the K’s.  Her family members before her were Mlms.  But she feels like this is imposed from the Arab culture, a culture that her people reject in many other ways.  Quite honestly, I’m surprised that more K people don’t feel the same way.  Regardless, she is still far from the Good News.  Her objections to the Good News were based on what she saw as logical contradictions, and she believes that there is not enough evidence on either side to prove whether the Father exists or not.  So she is comfortable in her neutral stance.  I shared my favorite verse with her, Jeremiah 29:13, “You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart.”  I encouraged her to seek out the answer to this question with all her heart and with a humble attitude because I believe that He will reveal Himself.  Please ask that the Father would lead her in a journey of seeking and finding Him.

The gas crisis has been partially relieved.

The Father has allowed sp conversations have come easily.

My roommate was able to drive to the airport 3 hours away to catch her flight to the US, even with the gas situation.
